GEOS-Chem is a global 3-D chemical transport model (CTM) for atmospheric composition driven by meteorological input from the Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) of the NASA Global Modeling and Assimilation Office.

IPEN is a global network working to establish and implement safe chemicals policies and practices that protect human health and the environment around the world. IPEN's mission is a toxics-free future for all.

TEDX: The Endocrine Disruption Exchange, founded by Dr. Theo Colborn, is an international non-profit organization dedicated to compiling and disseminating the scientific evidence on the health and environmental problems caused by low-dose exposure to chemicals that interfere with development and function, called endocrine disruptors.

Mercury Rising (2011; video)

Studies, such as the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) 2011 Assessment of Mercury in the Arctic, has shown that toxic mercury levels found in Arctic wildlife is high above natural levels, and the levels are rising at a disturbing rate. Mercury is a highly toxic element, that is present in liquid form at standard temperatures. The element is absorbed and accumulated in the food chain, causing problems for top-level predators and humans. Among the symptoms for mercury poisoning is birth defects and neurological damage.

Under the Dome. The filmmaker, Chai Jing, was an investigative reporter and anchor at state broadcaster China Central Television. Chai asks some tough questions about the politics and economics behind air pollution (PAHs, smog, and heavy metal pollution), in China. Chai used $160,000 of her own money and one year to make Under The Dome, the same title as a Stephen King novel.

The Arctic Dilemma (2002): Indigenous peoples of the Arctic, diet and long-range transport of contaminants
(AMAP video)
Owing to their traditional way of life and reliance on foods obtained from fishing and hunting, indigenous peoples of the Arctic are especially vulnerable to contaminants present in the Arctic environment. Often due to long-range transport from the rest of the World, persistent pollutants are present in the food-chains of the Arctic and get accumulated at the top level - in animals such as whales and seals. Mercury and other heavy metals, and persistent organic pollutants such as PCB and DDT (even though they are being phased out), are examples of chemicals that are present at concentrations that threaten human health and traditional lifeways. A change in diet to imported foods may create a new set of problems, including loss of traditions and lifeways, reliance on outside support, and nutrient deficiencies.
